M. longifolia subsp. capensis (balderjan),
with a strong peppermint scent, is the most widespread and occurs from
Calvinia down to the Cape Peninsula through the Eastern Cape, Lesotho,
Orange Free State, KwaZulu-Natal to Gauteng and Limpopo the Northern
Province.
